The British Sign Language (Scotland) Act 2015 requires all local authorities and public bodies to develop their own BSL Plans that outline how the organisation plans to promote and raise awareness of BSL. In October 2018 the Council published its first BSL plan, covering the period 2018 to 2024.

Earlier this year, we consulted on the next BSL Plan for 2024-2030. Following initial consideration by Policy and Sustainability Committee at its May 2024 meeting, members asked for a more detailed implementation plan to be developed, setting out milestones and resource implications. They also asked for further engagement with key stakeholders to be carried out.

Why your views matter

The plan sets out the actions needed to ensure that BSL users can be fully involved in daily and public life in Edinburgh, as active, healthy citizens and able to make informed choices about every aspect of their lives. We want to hear your views on whether these are the right actions for the city, where you think we should prioritise action and whether we’ve missed anything important.
