Review of Edinburgh Joint Carers’ Strategy

Closed 27 Feb 2017

Opened 2 Feb 2017

Overview

This consultation is open to unpaid carers in Edinburgh and the practitioners who support them.

The Edinburgh Joint Carers' Strategy was launched in 2014 to ensure that carers in Edinburgh have the support that is right for them in the right place at the right time.  The strategy was jointly created by a wide range of people across the City of Edinburgh Council, NHS Lothian, the voluntary sector and carers themselves. There are many programmes and activities to come out of it.  They are delivered by health, social care and charities in Edinburgh.  Some of the work you may not even have heard of, but it includes:

  • The Carer's Emergency Card, VolunteerNet and Carers Support Payments
  • The development of a Carers Support Hospital Discharge Service
  • Increased financial and benefits advice for carers
  • Increased choice and a range of short breaks and respite for carers
  • A range of carer support services provided by carer organisations and carer projects, including the young adult carers support service, information and advice, carer training, emotional support, and personalised carer support
  • The Pharmacy Technician Carer Support Service
  • Carer awareness training for health and social care staff
  • The Schools Awareness programme to help better identify and support young carers
  • The Young Carers Identification Card

Why your views matter

There will be a new carers' strategy created this year, and it will have new priorities and new ways to support the city's carers.  To make this strategy the best it can be, we want to hear from you.  Your answers to this survey will help us to understand if the first strategy had the impacts it set out to have.  They will also help us to decide the direction of the new strategy going forward, so that we can continue to provide the best and most useful support to carers and the people they care for.

What happens next

The responses to this survey will feed into the review of the Edinburgh Joint Carers’ Strategy, which will be published in April 2017.  The responses will also feed into the recommendations for the next Strategy, which will be developed and published later this year.
