Overview

Cammo Estate is a rural, semi-natural park in western Edinburgh comprising of farmland, semi-improved neutral grassland, semi-natural broadleaved woodland, plantation woodland, wetland and ornamental canal. It contains protected mammals and locally notable plant and bird species. The site forms part of Edinburgh’s green network, establishing an important link to the River Almond riparian corridor. It is historically culturally important and is an oasis for a variety of wildlife. It is an important site for recreational activities, educational provision and a hub for local community events and activities.

Views are sought from interested parties regarding the City of Edinburgh Council's intention to declare Cammo Estate a Local Nature Reserve.

Why your views matter

Any newly declared Local Nature Reserve has to be acknowledged by Scottish Natural Heritage. Acknowledgement is only done once a period of consultation has taken place with appropriate responses made to any issues raised or points made.

For more information please read the Declaration of Local Nature Reserve summary.

What happens next

A summary of the key themes/issues raised during the consultation, and our response to these, will be published after the team has had a chance to review and consider the feedback.

The findings from the consultation will be presented to Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) for consideration. If SNH acknowledges the declaration to make Cammo Estate a Local Nature Reserve, an official celebratory event will be held later in the year.
