City Plan 2040: Call for Ideas

Overview

We’d like your proposals and ideas to help shape Edinburgh’s next local development plan - City Plan 2040.

The Plan will help guide development and set the direction for how places across the city will grow, change and be protected over the coming years.

This is an opportunity for you to help us shape the vision, priorities and early proposals for the Proposed Plan.

This consultation builds on our earlier ‘what makes a good place?’ engagement and the ‘place and play’ engagement for children and young people. These helped us to put together the Evidence Report (link) which was the first stage of preparing City Plan 2040. The feedback from those consultations is still relevant and will continue to be used.

Who can take part?

Everyone – residents including young people, community councils, local groups, businesses, social enterprises, landowners, developers as well as public and third sector partners.

Is your idea related to planning?

Your idea should focus on the use and development of land and buildings across Edinburgh.

This could be:

  • Showing us a site where you think development could happen
  • Telling us what you think should be built on a site
  • Pointing out buildings, spaces or sites you think should be kept or protected
  • Telling us what facilities or services you think are missing from your area or what could be improved
  • Suggesting new planning policy to stop or encourage certain planning uses

Our current local development plan, City Plan 2030, has more detail on what is covered in the planning process.

Is this the right place for your idea?

You might have important concerns about Edinburgh or where you live but these might not fall within the control of planning and the local development plan process.

Issues such as litter, bin collection, tenancy matters, road repairs and parks maintenance are dealt with by other council services. You can find out more about our other services including those online on our website.
