The Future of the Community Grants Fund
Overview
The Community Grants Fund (CGF) is a small grants scheme provided by City of Edinburgh Council, aimed at small scale activity that will benefit local communities. It offers grants of up to £5,000 across 13 neighbourhood areas. There is approximately £405k available each year in total, divided up based on population figures in each area. Funds are awarded by funding panels consisting of elected members and representatives of community groups and other local organisations (except LeithChooses).
Why your views matter
The aim of this process is to develop proposals for community-informed changes to the CGF to be agreed by Culture and Communities Committee.
We want to hear your thoughts and ideas to help to identify a potential funding model based on feedback so far from focus groups and previous surveys, that:
- Reduces barriers to the fund and improves participation
- Takes into consideration the current resources available
The key drivers for change include:
- Addressing inequity arising from inconsistent approaches
- Improving access to the fund and reduce administrative burden on applicants and officers
- Developing processes that are feasible within available staff resource
- Increasing opportunities for community involvement in decision-making
