Feedback sought on the Edinburgh Local Development Plan process
Results updated 8 Nov 2017
Thank you for responding to our request for feedback on the Edinburgh Local Development Plan Process. The LDP has been adopted now for about a year and we are beginning to look forward and begin to plan LDP2.
On 12 October 2017 the Development Plan Scheme (DPS) went before the Housing and Economy Committee for approval . Appendix 2 of this report was the analysis of the feedback recieved from the survey.
Overall, respondents identified that the LDP process could be improved. In particular, there is a need to improve ways to make people feel involved and kept up to date on the progress of the LDP.
Going forward as part of the consultation for the next LDP process there is a need to:
- Find ways of connecting with the 16 – 54 year old sections of the population for participating in the LDP process and feedback on proposals.
- Engage further with different community groups to find out what their preferred method and frequency of updates would be throughout the LDP 2 process.
- Streamline and simplify how interested parties can comment on proposals and indicate clearly where any changes are made to proposals as a direct result of comments from the community.
- Develop an appropriate communication plan taking account of the above.
There is potential for the ongoing City Vision 2050 to assist in these efforts, by providing a wider discussion and process for the LDP 2 project to fit within.
The Strategic Development Plan for our area is currently being examined by the Scottish Government Reporter. Once this examination is complete (indicative date March 2018), we will then be able to publish a Development Plan Scheme which will contain the indicative timetable for producing LDP2. In the meantime, we are creating a communications strategy for LDP2 which takes into account feedback given and addresses, where appropriate, issues highlighted with the engagement, communication and process of LDP1.

Overview
The Council has recently adopted the Edinburgh Local Development Plan. The project was lengthy, complex and involved thousands of stakeholders at several formal engagement stages. The Council is seeking feedback from stakeholders on the process.
Why your views matter
We want to know how stakeholders view the local development plan process. We want to know whether and how people engaged with the process, and if they didn’t, why not. We will use this information to inform how we design and carry out the next local development plan project, with a view to improving the breadth of representation in the project, and level of engagement and support in its outcomes.
What happens next
The consultation is now closed and your feedback is being analysed to inform the process for the next Edinburgh Local Development Plan.
