Talking to energy companies on the tenants' bahalf and helping tenants to find the best energy provider and tariff were seen as the most important elements of the new energy advice service.
We did
The Council introduced a new energy advice service on 5 February 2018, which is being delivered by Changeworks on the Council’s behalf. Over a two year pilot Changeworks will provide a range of advice services to at least 1,000 tenants a year to ensure their homes are easier to heat and resolve any issues they have with their energy suppliers. An energy advisor will be based in each of the locality areas to ensure that they work closely with frontline staff and deliver the best service possible for tenants.

Tenants have told us that they are facing real difficulties meeting everyday costs. Many tenants who took part in last year’s budget consultation supported the idea of a new advice service to help them to cut their energy costs.
As a result, we’re going to test out a new energy advice service, over the next two years, which we expect will help over 2,000 Council tenants save money. It’s only by listening to you that we can design and invest in services in the right ways, so please take a few minutes to take this survey.
This service is only for Council tenants so please only take this survey if the City of Edinburgh Council is your landlord.
