Leith Connections: Hawthornvale to Seafield
Hawthornvale Path to Lindsay Road
Based on feedback from previous community engagement on the concept design, as well as a buildability review, we have made further adjustments to the design.
Key elements of the design are shown below. Please see our full design drawing package for further details.
Link to Hawthornvale Path
We have developed further detail on the planting areas and materials to be used. The new park area here will provide a link towards the proposed public realm improvements at the new Lindsay Road bridge.
The proposed changes to the entrance of Hawthornvale Path are illustrated in the image below. Use the slider to toggle between the original photograph and the proposed visualisation.
The changes also include the inclusion of a gateway feature to highlight the entrance to the Hawthornvale Path, currently shown as two grey columns in the visualisation above, we’d like your ideas on what this feature should look like.
Sustainable Drainage Solutions (SuDS)
SuDS is a more natural approach to managing drainage systems. This involved including drainage features which seek to slow the runoff of surface water (rainfall) into local rivers and sewers.
A raingarden as a SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Solution) feature is proposed with planting of native and pollinator species.
Lindsay Road/ Commercial Street junction
At the Lindsay Road/ Commercial Street junction there has been a reduction in traffic from the north given increased use of Melrose Drive as a route from the Ocean Terminal area. We can remove one of the two southbound traffic lanes on Ocean Drive on the approach to the junction. This provides space to include protected cycle tracks along Ocean Drive and widen the footway on eastern side.
North Leith Mill
We propose to provide new pavement along North Junction Street at North Leith Mill and introduce a restriction to prevent motor vehicles passing between Prince Regent Street and North Leith Mill.
These improvements will complement forthcoming improvements to footways along North Junction Street as part of our roads and footways capital works programme.
