Saughton Park Master Plan Proposals
Overview
The Council has been working with the Royal Caledonian Horticulture Society, the Friends of Saughton Park and the local community to develop plans to improve Saughton Park.
The proposals aim to revitalise the park and include the restoration of the walled gardens, bandstand and winter gardens. The derelict stable block and yard will be developed into new visitor facilities with a café and public toilets, courtyard event space, community venue, teaching gardens and office space for staff. Improvements are also planned for the rest of the park. They include repairs to footpaths, new access points and circulations routes, new lighting, park furniture and signage and increased facilities in the play park.
The development of these proposals has been funded by a first round Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) development grant. Once finalised they will support our final and second round HLF bid application which will be submitted in August 2015.
You can read more about the project, what’s being proposed and how to get involved on the Council’s Saughton Park Project web pages.
Why your views matter
We have carried out various engagement activities over the past year. These activities have included workshops, meetings and exhibitions for stakeholders and members of the public, visitor satisfaction surveys, visitor counts, analysis of demographic information and review of strategic and policy documents. The information we have gathered has helped us to understand who uses the park, how they use it and what their concerns and aspirations are for the park. It has been used to guide the development of the master plan proposals for the park.
The purpose of this consultation is to now get feedback from stakeholders and members of the public on these proposals. Your feedback will be taken into account in the next stage of the design process which will finalise the designs ready for our HLF bid application later this year.
The consultation runs from 27 February until 6 April 2015. You can view the plans and tell us what you think in a number of ways.
