Strategic Parking Review - Phase 1 Parking Survey 2025
Overview
The City of Edinburgh Council would like to hear your views regarding the parking restrictions in your street.
We began a Strategic Parking Review in response to communities across the city asking us to tackle parking problems. Residents in some areas told us that a lack of parking controls makes it difficult for them and their visitors to park near their homes.
We agreed that a review of parking pressures should look at parking across the whole city. By taking a holistic approach, we could compare results for every area and make recommendations based on where the evidence suggested there was the greatest pressure on parking.
Background
The Council previously received requests from residents in your area, asking us to take action to tackle the parking issues caused by non-residential parking.
In response, the Council's Transport and Environment Committee approved the commencement of a legal process to introduce parking controls. The resulting Controlled Parking Zone came into effect in stages throughout 2023 and 2024 in Leith/Abbeyhill and Gorgie/Shandon, as outlined in the table below.

Why your views matter
We are carrying out this survey to gather information based on your experience of the parking restrictions since their implementation.
Results of this survey will be reported to the Council’s Transport and Environment Committee in future and will inform Controlled Parking Zone proposal preparation going forward.
