A total of 148 people responded to the online survey, with a number of other letter and email submissions. Overall there was a majority of support for the scheme, details of which can be found in the consultation report below.

Numerous design considerations and alterations were suggested. These are detailed in the consultation report, along with a response from the Council and a summary of all the key design changes.

We did

Based on the high levels of support, the council intends to proceed with the scheme. However, due to a current lack of resources we have temporarily put this scheme on hold. All consultees who have asked to be kept informed about the scheme, will be notified once it progresses to the next stage of public engagement, at the end of detailed design.

Overview

This consultation gives people the opportunity to express their views about initial proposed designs for a cycle route and walking improvements between Holyrood Park and Ratcliffe Terrace.

The route, called QuietRoute 30, will form part of the QuietRoutes Network which is being implemented across Edinburgh. The aim of the network is to provide routes that are easy, safe and convenient to use by people of any level of cycling experience. It will also improve conditions for people walking.

There shall be a public exhibtion of the designs on Wednesday 31 May from 5pm till 8pm at the Newington Library. Staff will be on hand to discuss the designs.

Why your views matter

The Council needs to understand and consider all the needs and views expressed by people regarding the street re-design.

We will use the comments to develop an optimum design that improves the street for walking and cycling.

What happens next

Following the consultation, the designs will be further refined and developed by a design team of Council and external technical experts.

There will be further opportunities to respond to the designs as they are refined.

Final designs will be completed in 2017.

Subject to Committee approval and funding availability, the intention is to begin construction in 2018/19.
