Secure On-Street Cycle Parking

Closed 9 Nov 2019

Opened 22 Aug 2019

Overview

Cycling is an increasingly popular way to get around Edinburgh.

We’re growing the number of cycle routes and more people now own bikes. Storing bikes is an issue, particularly in central areas with tenements. It can be difficult to keep a bicycle in some properties, especially if you live on the upper floors, are elderly/disabled or the stairwell is already overused. Sadly, bike theft is common even from inside stairwells.

We’re addressing this by installing secure cycle parking units on 79 streets across the city - this follows a successful pilot project. We intend each space to cost £5 per month with a £30 deposit, this will go towards the administration and upkeep of the hangars and help to ensure responsible use of the scheme.

The hangars will have a gas sprung hinge which will significantly reduce the noise opening and closing the units.

Your street (or a street within your 50m catchment area) is part of the proposal and we’d like to hear your views.

Please find detailed plans below for the streets chosen - listed alphabetically.  There are also hangar specification drawings called "DETAILS".

Once you've had a look please follow the link to the 'SNAP' survey to leave your feedback.

Why your views matter

In order to ensure the best locations are selected for hangars we would appreciate feedback from those living near to the proposed sites.

What happens next

Folliwing this consultation, we’ll review responses before proceeding with ‘Traffic Regulation Orders’ to allow installation.  These will be advertised on street and require Council approval.

Installation is expected to start in Winter 2019 on all approved streets.
